Meet the Artist

The Early Years

Caffy Cox knew that she wanted to be an artist by the time she was in the first grade, when she found herself illustrating her book reports. Born and raised in Arkansas and Texas, she still remembers knocking on doors in her neighborhood and selling her drawings for five cents a piece. In high school she used her talent to create atmosphere at the proms by painting large murals.

Education, etc.

After high school Caffy studied art at the University of Arkansas, where she met Don Whitney, whom she married and followed to Ft. Worth, Texas and Chicago, Illinois. While living in suburban Chicago, she earned an Associate of Applied Science in Illustration from the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. After graduation, Caffy went on to teach Illustration at the college. She also started her own business as an illustrator and portrait painter.

In the Heartland

In the late 1990s the Whitney family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Caffy became interested in faux finishes and trompe l'oeil, a type of painting that can "fool the eye". She expanded her portrait and illustration business and began to create large atmospheric murals in private homes and public spaces.

And Now ...

Recently, the Whitney's relocated once again. This time to Louisville, KY. Now Caffy's decorative painting will be available to the residents and businesses of the Louisville area. Reflecting her love of the Renaissance masters and the Pre-Raphailite artists, Caffy's creations are timeless works of classic beauty.
